Glasgow is the envy of many European cities for its amazing and eclectic restaurant and café scene. Add to that great shopping, outstanding Victorian architecture, the plethora of cultural attractions, and its easy to see why Glasgow is such a tantalising experience. Indeed, Frommer's editor has chosen Glasgow as one of her top ten must see destinations - the only one in Europe to make it onto the list!
Glasgow is viewed as a trend-setter in European Culture and a centre of dining excellence to such an extent that it is now widely acknowledged that Glasgow has the best dining scene in the UK outside of London. The largest city in Scotland certainly provides a dynamic reality of Scotland with Style.
Located within an hour's drive of fresh oysters from Loch Fyne and the grazing glens of Perthshire, Glasgow has the world's best produce at its fingertips. The rest of the world clamours to buy, at a premium, Scotch beef, smoked salmon and fresh Atlantic Seafood - we have this natural larder on tap.
Glasgow has the metropolitan feel of a major international city but still retains the village community where local businesses know each other. The restaurateurs in our city all understand that local spirit is a vital factor in presenting a town that is 'together'. Sharing experiences and knowledge is a culture in Glasgow, which allows us to progress at a pace which many spectators observe with envy.
It was this spirit of co-operation and progressive thinking which led to the formation of Glasgow Restaurateurs Association, a not for profit organisation, which has grown over several years from a small number of restaurants to over 70 of the best Glasgow restaurants. All restaurants fulfil certain exacting criteria and attain specific quality standards to be eligible for membership. The Association has uniquely allowed a group of widely diverse professionals to exchange ideas with one common aim - to promote the excellence of the Glasgow restaurant landscape on a local, national and international level.
